Leaves: Leaves compound (bipinnate). Alternate. Blades with a nectary gland on the leaf rachis between or below the lowermost pair of pinnae, leaflets few to numerous. Base inequilateral. Petioles often glandular. Stipules deciduous, small, setaceous.

Flowers: Flowers perfect, in globose heads, these variously racemosely arranged, peduncles with an involucel, bracts spatulate, persistent, bracteoles absent. Flowers mimosaceous. Calyx tubular or campanulate, shortly 5-toothed. Corolla of 5 petals, distinct. Stamens 10, distinct; anthers often pilose. Ovary superior, stipitate; ovules numerous; style 1, apical.

Fruit: Pods stipitate; oblong to linear–oblong; flat; not septate; dehiscent by thin valves. Seeds several to numerous; brown; compressed; transversely arranged; with a pleurogram.
